Ooli Typeface (2020)
When working on a talk for the 2020 Type Symposium “Fonts and Faces”, I decided to explore an idea I had been kicking around in my head for a little while.
“What if I tried to make a complete alphabet from a very limited set of basic shapes, but each letter must to use all of the shapes?”
In this case I close to focus on and create every letter with a large circle, a small circle, a long line and short line. Side note: putting them all next to each other is how I came up with the name Ooli.
The result presents a nice combinations of the cryptic and the familiar and something I look forward to testing in larger texts.
